If you are amongst those who best appreciate a place in solitude, then do visit Athabasca Falls either early morning or late in the evening. The extremely strong gush of water, drops hurriedly through the falls & passes through the gorge, carving its own path. Even though, the Athabasca Falls are neither vertically nor horizontally the most majestic in the Rockies, but they definitely are the most powerful falls. Whilst, it may be very visually enticing to go off the marked path, but don’t ever venture that owing to extremely precarious conditions. The falls are easily accessible from the parking lot along a paved way. Located just 30 kilometers outside of town, Athabasca falls can be visited en route to Columbia Icefields, or rather standalone, but in either case give it the time it deserves. ![]()
